Newton Aycliffe’s Northern League football club could finish as high as third in the top flight after enjoying a strong run-in to the season.
Peter Dixon’s side can climb up fourth in the first division with a win at home to derby rivals Bishop Auckland on Saturday, with other results going their way.
It comes after Aycliffe won four out of their last six games – including a 2-1 victory at last year’s champions Marske United on Thursday night.
The Newtonians also beat Whitley Bay on Tuesday night and last Thursday (28th April) they won 3-0 at home to newly-crowned league champions Shildon.
Aycliffe are currently fifth with a game in hand over third-placed Guisborough with five points separating them.
The Durham County Cup champions face an exciting four-day finale as the 2015-16 season draws to a close.
After their derby with seventh-placed Bishop at Moore Lane Park on Saturday, Aycliffe entertain West Auckland on Monday night before going to mid-table Dunston on Wednesday night in the final game of what’s been Aycliffe’s best-ever campaign.
Kick-off against Bishop on Saturday is 3pm.
