Motorists are advised that a series of roadworks will take place throughout County Durham during half-term which may affect Newton Aycliffe drivers.
Durham County Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on a number of routes from 14th to 22nd February.
The essential works have been scheduled to take place during the school half term break in order to minimise disruption as much as possible.
When and where the works will be carried out:
• February 14-22: part of the A688 in Spennymoor will be closed in two phases between A688 Middlestone Moor roundabout and the A688/C152 Gas Works roundabout. Diversions will be in place.
• February 15: the A167 in Durham City on the approaches to the traffic signals near St Monica Grove and the A690 Crossgate Peth. Temporary traffic lights will be in place.
• February 22: the A167 southbound approach to Neville’s Cross in Durham City. Temporary traffic lights and diversions will be in place.
• February 21-22 and February 28-March 1: a section of the A691 Durham Road in Lanchester will be closed in two phases. Diversions will be in place.
During the closures bus services will be operating via the diversion but will continue to serve Lanchester Village Green in both directions.
Any passengers wishing to travel from the section being omitted by bus services (east Lanchester) can book a free taxi by contacting the council’s Travel Response Centre on 03000 269 999. The taxi will provide the connection with bus services at the village green.
Brian Buckley, strategic highways manager, Durham County Council, said: “These important works have been planned to take place over the school holidays and weekends to keep any disruption to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any delays resulting from these works and we appreciate motorists’ patience while they are carried out.”
