A controversial housing development on the edge of Newton Aycliffe is back on the agenda.
The Homes and Communities Agency has submitted a new application to build 226 houses on agricultural land at Eldon Whins, in between Middridge and Middridge Road.
It comes 18 months after several Middridge residents opposed a 241-home development in the same area (above).

That application by Persimmon Homes, which was later shelved, was for 84 two, three and four-bedroom homes and an outline application for a further 157 homes, comprising 10% affordable properties.
The Homes and Communities Agency’s latest application is for 226 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, with 15% of the whole development to be affordable.
As with the last application, the development would incorporate a variety of open spaces including parks, informal and equipped play areas.
“The scheme will have character and identity making it an attractive place to live,” says the application.
“The development will contain a mix of housing to encourage a balanced community to complement the existing community of Newton Aycliffe.
“The site would have strong pedestrian connectivity to the neighbouring settlement and outwards across the open countryside.”
Great Aycliffe Town Council leader, Councillor Bob Fleming, has said he would be personally in favour of the development.
It’s expected to be discussed by the environmental committee in around three weeks.
