Newton Aycliffe’s new signing Danny Lambert says it was his close pal Danny Earl who persuaded him to sign for the Newtonians.
Former Darlington winger Lambert completed his move from fellow Northern League side Marske United this week.
The speedy 19-year-old will go straight into Aycliffe’s squad for tonight’s League Cup tie at Consett (7.30pm kick-off).
And the youngster, who scored one goal in 13 sub appearances for Darlo in the Conference last season, says it was his Teesside pal Earl who convinced him to join the Blues.
“It was only a matter of time before I signed for Aycliffe,” said Lambert.
“The main reason was to play alongside my close friend Danny Earl – he hasn’t stopped complimenting how good the lads are at Aycliffe since he joined, and how much I’d enjoy it.
“Leaving Marske was a difficult decision, I thought about it long and hard for two weeks, but I think I’ve made the right decision because I think they’ll get the best out of me.
“I’m hoping to give the team an extra boost going forward and grab myself a bundle of goals!
“I’m really happy I’ve signed and really looking forward to the rest of the season!”
Lambert is expected to make his Aycliffe debut at Consett tonight – we’ll bring you details of that game later tonight.
