Durham is set to host a major event showcasing innovative energy projects.
On Wednesday September 5, Durham County Council Chairman, John Lethbridge, will officially welcome European partners for the Interreg Europe funded programme REBUS (Renovation for Energy Efficient Buildings).
During the two day event, Durham will showcase some of the exciting energy projects it is involved in, along with partner organisations. Partners will be joining the event from Italy, Sweden, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Region of Crete and Germany.
Rich Hurst, REBUS project manager, said: “This event is a great opportunity for us and our local stakeholders to share experiences and learn from others so that we can continue to improve services across the county.”
This will take place at the Durham Energy Institute (DEI), where the council will be highlighting its proposal to use mine-water to heat buildings and its innovative approach to installing solid wall insulation on homes. DEI will also highlight their innovation labs.
Maggie Bosanquet, the council’s team leader for the Low Carbon Economy Team, concluded: “We are delighted to be hosting more European visitors to our fabulous city and to have the opportunity to share the great work that we are doing with our partners and to learn from them in exchange.”
Local stakeholders will attend including Durham Community Action and Voluntary Organisations North East, along with national government representation from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
Presentations from the council and a tour of Durham Energy Institute will be made on September 5 at the Palatine Centre, Durham University.
