Both of Newton Aycliffe’s cricket teams suffered defeats in NYSD League action at the weekend.
Aycliffe’s first team took on Redcar’s second XI at Aycliffe Sports Club and were well beaten by 89 runs after the visitors chalked up 186 all out.
John Cavanagh, sponsored by CVO Fire, was the star performer, with his six-wicket haul earning him the man-of-the-match.
But Aycliffe’s batting let them down as they were bowled out for 97, with Michael Howe (36) and Cavanagh (19) the top scorers.
The result leaves Aycliffe mid-table in the NYSD League second division.
And it was no better for Aycliffe’s inexperienced second team, either, despite some inspired bowling by Danny Weldon at Bishop Auckland.
The home side scored 98 all out, with Weldon’s six wickets for 16 runs turning out to be the second team’s best bowling figures in eight years.
But, again, it was the batting which let Aycliffe down, as Bishop bowled the visitors out or just 60.
There’s a double-bill of fixtures for both teams this weekend, as foolows:
