Shoppers and retailers are set for an early Christmas present with free parking after 3pm in all council-owned car parks throughout December.
In further good news, as part of Durham County Council’s ongoing support for local retailers, parking will also be free from 10am on 3 December for Small Business Saturday.
The free parking applies to all council run car parks, as well as on-street parking bays in Durham City, and runs from Thursday, 1 December until Saturday 31 December.
Now in its third year, the council introduced the measure to further support local businesses as well as helping to make affording Christmas a little easier for residents.
Cllr Neil Foster (above, right), Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said: “The run-up to Christmas is a vital time for town centre traders and our local economy.
“By providing free parking after 3pm we hope we can help businesses across County Durham as well as giving an early Christmas present to both shoppers and visitors.”
