There is quite often a buzz of excitement at the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe, but recently the buzz was hair clippers in readiness to shave a willing volunteer’s hair off!
PCP options members would like to say a big thank you to Cath Casey from Sainsbury’s Local at Cobblers Hall for her head shaving fundraising idea.
Options supports adults with learning and physical disabilities and they were delighted to become Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the year in 2018.
Cath, who works for Sainburys, recently completed a sponsored head shave, raising a fantastic £195.13.
Linda West, options project co-ordinator, said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed seeing Cath bravely have her hair completely shaved off.
“Some of Options members even got hands on and at one point there was a queue of people taking turns! The funds raised will provide resources for a range of activities and trips – all of which Options members choose and plan themselves.”
Cath said “I have worked closely with Options as Sainsbury’s representative and have supported them with a number of fundraising activities.
“They’re an amazing group and I’ve enjoyed getting to know them and seeing the huge range of things they get up to. I admire the work that happens and wanted to support the group further, so what better way to visibly show my support than shaving my hair off!
PCP chief executive Carol Gaskarth said: “Without the support of people like Cath, and organisations such as Sainsbury’s Local, PCP and our projects could not achieve half as much.
“Options was established almost 20 years ago and continues to go from strength to strength through generosity of spirit and kind donations of time and money from local people and communities. Braving the shave is definitely not something I could do – well done Cath you are a star.”
As well as thanks to Cath and Sainsury’s local, thanks are also expressed to Judith from Hair We Go, based in Newton Aycliffe town centre, who supported the event with her mastery of the clippers helping Options to have a go too.
