Durham County Council is working with DisabledGo to evaluate over 1000 public buildings and venues across County Durham for accessibility.
All buildings and venues assessed will be put on their website at www.disabledGo.com which provides disabled people with the information they need about access in their community. The information will also be linked to Durham County Council’s website.
Jenny Haworth, head of planning and performance, said: “DisabledGo provides disabled people with the information needed to make informed choices about accessing their community.
“I am very pleased we are able to take this project forward in Durham, joining many other towns, cities and areas on the award winning website.”
Various community events will be held on May 22 and 23 to ask the public to come up with a list of venues to be assessed.
The events give local people the opportunity to suggest venues they would like included in their local access guide.
DisabledGo will host the events with support from the local authority.
An Aycliffe event will take place at the Pioneering Care Centre from 10.30am until noon on Tuesday May 22.
