Around 20 members of the same family covering four generations completed a marathon cycle ride recently in memory of Aycliffe man, Cyril Tinkler.
Cyril died last September aged 81 years old after he lost a brave battle against cancer.
His eldest son, Jeff, organised the Cycle for Cyril bike 50-miles ride from NBewton Aycliffe to Newcastle on the Suynday nearest what would have been Cyril’s birthday on 10th May.
The youngest cyclist was Cyril’s great-grandson, Dylan Goddard, a six-year-old pupil at St Mary’s RC Primary school in the town. The oldest with 80 years on Dylan was 86-years young, Audrey Humble. of Bewick Cresecent.
They were sponsored to raise money for the Butterwick and St Theresa’s Hospices in Bishop Auckland and Darlington resepctively – both helped Cyril and his family during his illness.
The event was officially started by Cyril’s widow, Freda, and family members also included sons, grandsons, grandaughter-in-law, great-nephews and great-grandaughter, Hannah, aged 10 years.
