A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…
Saturday 18th June – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Barnard Castle 2nd XI – weather was dry and cloudy. Barnard Castle won the toss and asked Aycliffe to bat first.
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 55 all out after 15.4 overs
Sam Telford 20, Michael Howe 14 and Luke Telford 10.
Barnard Castle 2nd XI 56 for 3 after 9.2 overs
Colin Myers 2 for 14
Newton Aycliffe were well beaten at home to Barnard Castle 2nd team by 7 wickets. Michael Howe (sponsored by Keziah Benson Photography) was named man of the match by the opposition captain. Aycliffe have slid down the 2nd division table in recent weeks and now sit uncomfortably in the relegation zone with 100 points from ten league games played.
Saturday 18th June – NYSD Division 3
Northallerton 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was dry and cloudy. Northallerton won the toss and chose to bat first.
Northallerton 2nd XI 367 for 2 declared after 49.3 overs
Ian Palmer 1 for 18 and Elliott Holt 1 for 66
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 83 all out after 18 overs
Elliott Holt 32, Dylan Tribley 14 and Tony Travis 12 not out.
Due to injuries and the unavailability of many regulars, 10 man Aycliffe were forced to turn out a severely depleted team and it was no surprise that they were beaten by a club record margin of 284 runs away at Northallerton 2nds. However there were some highlights, including a first ever wicket for 56 year old club Chairman Ian Palmer, who was coaxed out of retirement to help out the team, a debut for 54 year Michael Tribley and Elliott Holt was nominated as man of the match.
