Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Darlington 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Darlington won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 172 all out after 48.3 overs

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI lost at home to promotion hopefuls Darlington 2nd XI by 49 runs to dent their quest to get away from the NYSD relegation zone. Adam Gittins (sponsored by Pheonix Energy) was named man of the match after he top scored during the Aycliffe innings with 48 runs off 88 balls including 8 boundaries. The 6 points gained from todays game still leaves Aycliffe just 17 points above the drop zone on 208 points, but they have played a game more than their relegation rivals.
Saturday 6th August – NYSD Division 3
Preston 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Preston won the toss and decided to bat first.
Preston 1st XI 234 for 9 after 50 overs
Stephen Sweeney 4 for 54, Joe Teasdale 2 for 19 and Tony Travis 2 for 43
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 172 all out after 44.5 overs
Dan Craggs 68, Tony Travis 55 and Stephen Sweeney 15.
The second team were beaten away at Preston by 62 runs in the NYSD division 3.
Acting captain Tony Travis rolled back the years yet again to earn the man of the match award after a superb all round performance with both bat and ball.
In the Preston innings, Travis finished with the creditable bowling figures of 2 for 43 from his 13 over spell and when Aycliffe replied, the veteran proceeded to score an excellent half century, eventually being dismissed for a season’s best 55, and his included six boundaries and two sixes.
