Newton Aycliffe’s cricket team notched up their eighth league win on the spin as they stayed top of the NYSD League third division.
Aycliffe’s first team beat Maltby’s second XI last Saturday after man-of-the-match Dan Craggs hit 60 with the bat and Luke Telford 35 as they chalked up 217 for eight.
Aycliffe then bowled Maltby out for 147, with Luke Telford taking four wickets for 28 and Sam Telford three for 17.
Sean Morgan equalled the club record for outfield catches when he held on to four during the Maltby innings and 16-year-old debutant wicket-keeper Ben Nicholson took two excellent stumpings.
Aycliffe’s second team followed it up with an easy win against Darlington RA’s third XI last Sunday.
RA were 76 all out, with Ross Dixon taking three for 28, Pat Howe two for seven, Dan Weldon two for 11 and Tom Wickins two for 26.
Aycliffe racked up 77 for four from just 23.1 overs wo win the game, with Adam Gittins 40 not out.
Aycliffe’s firs team’s promotion bandwagon continues at home to Norton’s second XI, 1.30pm at Aycliffe Sports Club on Saturday.
The second team are at home to Saltburn’s 3rd XI on Sunday (2.15pm).
