Newton Aycliffe’s cricket team were knocked off the top of the NYSD League second division following their defeat at home to Middlesbrough.
Aycliffe’s first XI lost by six wickets against Boro’s second team last Saturday and dropped to third in the table with 193 points.
Aycliffe scored a decent 167 from 44.5 overs, with Matty Atkinson (35), Graham Telford (27) and Colin Myers (17 not out) the high scorers.
But Boro took just under 31 overs to rack up 173 for four to win the game, with Matty Atkinson taking two wickets for 32, Sean Morgan one for 36 and Colin Myers one for 33.
Aycliffe’s second team got back to winning ways last Saturday with an exciting two-wicket victory away to Bedale’s first XI.
Bedale were 126 all out, with Adam Gittins taking four wickets for 31, Patrick Howe two for no runs and Neil Bancroft two for 27.
And a fantastic all-round performance from captain Adam Gittins quite rightly earned him the man-of-the-match award, scoring 37 with the bat after his four-wicket haul, as Aycliffe reached 137 points in the NYSD League third division.
Aycliffe’s first team go to Normanby Hall to take on their second team this Saturday (12th July, 1pm), while our second XI are at home to Whitby’s second team at Aycliffe Sports Club on Saturday, also 1pm.
