Newton Aycliffe’s cricket team surged to the top of the NYSD League second division with a fine away win at Wolviston.
Aycliffe’s first XI produced an excellent performance to win by 56 runs on Saturday to beat their fellow promotion hopefuls to go top of the league with 188 points from 13 games at the half-way stage of the season.
Aycliffe were elected to bat first and were 153 all out, with Sean Morgan scoring 37 and Chris Palmer 37, while Ross Dixon was 24 not out.
But the visitors bowled Wolviston’s first team out for 97 from 36.4 overs, with man-of-the-match Matty Atkinson (pictured in action above) taking five wickets for 10. Michael Howe also took three for 34 and Luke Telford two for 10.
But it wasn’t to be for Aycliffe’s second team at the weekend.
