Newton Aycliffe’s first team slipped to fifth in the NYSD League second division with a comprehensive 117-run defeat at Stokesley.
Aycliffe produced arguably their worst batting performance of the season against Stokesley’s second XI.
Luke Telford earned the man-of-the-match for his 4 wickets for 22 runs as the home side were 180 all out.
But Aycliffe were skittled out for just 63, with Chris Palmer the top scorer on 19.
On the flip side, Aycliffe’s second team continued their amazing season in the NYSD League third division with a battling draw at home to league-leaders Norton 2nd XI last Saturday.
Sixteen-year-old Ben Nicholson earned the man-of-the-match award with a superb innings of 60 not out to help earn his team a share of the spoils.
Trevor Shingler also scored 25 and Tom Wickins 17 as Aycliffe scored 163 for seven from 50 overs, in reply to Norton’s 236 for four, with Jack Slatcher taking two wickets for 55.
Aycliffe’s first team are at home to Maltby’s first team this Saturday (1pm at Aycliffe Sports Club), while our second team go to Billingham Synthonia to take on their second XI on Saturday.
