Woodham Community Technology College, which will become Woodham Academy on 1st September, has opened a cricket academy to provide professional coaching to talented cricketers.
Students selected for the U12s, U13s, U14s and U15s squads attended the launch of Woodham Sports Academy earlier this month.
Year 7 students starting at Woodham Academy in September are welcome to join on a one-year trial basis.
Coaching will be delivered by Durham County Cricket coach and Woodham Assistant Headteacher, Danny Morgans.
A talented cricketer in his own right, Danny made his debut for Darlington First Eleven at the age of 15.
Through his late teens and twenties he was a regular in their 1st eleven playing alongside former Durham County players Andy Fothergill and John Glendenen in one of the most demanding amateur leagues in the country.
Danny always had an interest in coaching and worked his way through the ECB coaching structure and on achieving the Level 2 award was quickly invited to work with Durham County Junior squads in the year 2001.
Since then, Danny has regularly worked with elite junior county players as an age group lead coach, as well as overseeing the Durham County provision at district level for a number of years.
Danny has also assisted a number of local clubs in junior development and he is widely regarded to be one of the most accomplished cricket coaches in the area. Danny is currently working with the Durham County under 17s squad.
Woodham Sports Academy, part of Woodham Academy, offers high-quality coaching opportunities to elite athletes in a range of sports, including football, dance, basketball, American football, swimming, table tennis, gymnastics and softball.
