Sunderland have today confirmed ex-Darlington manager Craig Liddle has joined their coaching staff.
Liddle, who took over as Quakers manager during their turbulent administration in the second half of the 2011-12 campaign, has the Academy coaching staff at the Stadium of Light.
The 40-year-old, who had four spells in caretaker charge of the Quakers, will take up a role as development coach working with the club’s full-time scholars.
Liddle will join Academy manager Ged McNamee’s team on June 11.
McNamee said: “Craig is a fantastic young coach who will bring great knowledge and enthusiasm to our Academy scholars.
“We have all seen the passion Craig has for football over the years, especially recently at Darlington, and I’m sure our young players will look forward to working with him.”
Liddle, who was born in Chester-le-Street, started his career in the Midlands with Aston Villa and later represented Blyth Spartans.
The defender moved to Middlesbrough in 1994 before joining Darlington four years later, making 361 senior career appearances in total.
