Newton Aycliffe-based global craft supplies firm Crafter’s Companion is lending a helping hand to a community group following the opening of its first UK store.
The company, which was founded by County Durham-born Sara Davies in 2005, will be sponsoring the Newton Aycliffe Tri Club’s new kit as part of an ongoing community engagement programme, designed to support local groups and residents in the town and the surrounding area.
Sara said: “The local community has been so supportive of Crafter’s Companion during the opening of our new store in Newton Aycliffe, so it’s great to be able to give something back.
“The tri club is so popular and really helps people to achieve their goals, whatever their ability, which is something that we really believe in at Crafter’s Companion. It was a natural fit for us to offer our support.”
The Newton Aycliffe Tri Club, which attracts members from Aycliffe, Spennymoor, Shildon and Stockton, helps athletes of all ages and abilities to develop their sporting skills via the support and advice of fully qualified England triathlon coaches.
“We can’t thank Crafter’s Companion enough for helping us to supply our members with new kits,” said club coach Dan Halladay.
“The tri club offers invaluable training and support to budding athletes in the community, as well as people of all fitness levels and abilities.
“Our aim is to bring together a community of people with a passion for swimming, cycling and running – whether they are Olympic hopefuls or simply want to have fun. We’re incredibly grateful for the support from Crafter’s Companion.”
Throughout the year, the tri club holds swimming, cycling and running sessions for its members, offers support and advice on equipment through Triology, a local multi-sport retailer and bike fitting studio, and works with a number of organisations and groups in the area, including the RAF cadet force at Aycliffe Territorial Army Centre.
Crafter’s Companion, which is headquartered on Aycliffe Business Park, specialises in manufacturing, distributing and retailing crafting tools and products, which are currently sold online via its website, on TV shopping channels across the world and by thousands of independent retailers, as well as in Crafter’s Companion’s flagship store in Newton Aycliffe.
