On A level results day, students across County Durham have been praised for their hard work to achieve results in spite of disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Students in the county are receiving their results today which, for the first time since the pandemic began, will be based upon end of year exams.
Durham County Council recognises that students receiving their results this year have spent less time in the classroom due to coronavirus lockdowns and waves of high case numbers.
In County Durham, the average grade achieved at A level this year is a B and the average Applied General and Tech Level result is a Distinction+.
Cllr Ted Henderson, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for children and young people’s services said: “We are incredibly proud of everyone in County Durham who has received their A level results today.
“To say they deserve great credit is an understatement given the context of a global pandemic which has caused huge disruption to their studies over the past two-and-a-half years.
“We are also grateful to all education providers for their commitment to children and young people in County Durham.
“Whatever grades you receive today, please be assured that there are many opportunities for you to follow your dreams in County Durham and there is lots of support available.”
