An energy firm hoping to create a huge wind farm near Newton Aycliffe have had its application to build two temporary wind-measuring masts rejected.
E.ON had hoped the masts would determine whether the site is suitable for The Isles – a controversial wind farm proposal currently under public consultation.
Planning officers recommend Durham County Council’s planning committee approved the application when it met at County Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
But councillors refused E.ON’s application, with members airing concerns about the impact on local landscape and the conflict with the policies of the Sedgefield Borough local plan.
Aycliffe Today will bring you more reaction about this story soon.
