Residents in Newton Aycliffe are being warned to expect disruption to council services due to industrial action taking place today (Thursday).
Durham County Council is taking steps to minimise the impact on emergency and essential services but people are advised that most council buildings will be closed to the public.
These include customer access points (CAP’s), libraries, council-run leisure centres, children’s centres, day care centres, Durham Town Hall and the County Record Office. The DLI Museum, Gala Theatre and Locomotion at Shildon will also be closed.
Many schools and nurseries are also expected to be closed. Parents and carers will have been notified. An up-to-date list of the schools affected is available at www.durham.gov.uk/schoolclosures
There will be no refuse, recycling, garden waste or bulky waste collections and no waste permits will be issued, posted, or available for collection on Thursday. However, all household waste recycling centres will be open as normal.
Killhope: the north of England Lead Mining Museum and Hardwick Park remain open. The Park and Ride service will also be running as normal. Register offices will also be open.
People on adult learning courses are asked to contact the providers.
