Aycliffe police are trying to crack down on the use of illegal off-road bikes in the town.
Our local Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hard to identify and reprimand people who use the ‘mini motos’.
The nuisance bikes, which can only be legally used on designated land with the landowners’ permission, are being persistently ridden illegally around the town, particularly around Great Aycliffe Way.
And, shockingly, some young adults are using them to take their children to school – any accidents would not be covered by insurance.
Now police are trying to crack down on the bikes – and are enlisting the help of the force’s bike section to do it.
Police Community Support Officer Mike Welch, pictured at Aycliffe Police’s new HQ on the industrial park, said: “We’re well aware that these mini motos are being a particular nuisance to the people of Aycliffe, and residents can rest assured we’re doing all we can to crack down on them.
“We’re bringing in the force’s specialist bike section, which will work with us to identify the people illegally using these bikes.”
As usual, anyone with information is asked to call the beat team direct on 01325 742621, or email [email protected]
