Newton Aycliffe’s first team won comfortably at relegated Thornaby 2nds on Saturday.
Aycliffe declared on 278 for nine after 46.3 overs, with Joe Haines (68), Chris Palmer (67) and Luke Telford (35) the top scorers.
And it took the visitors just 14.5 overs to bowl Thornaby out for 20, with man-of-the-match Michael Howe taking five wickets for 15 and Colin Myers four for five.
The 258-run victory, a club record, saw Aycliffe reach 329 points with one game left – at home to Wolviston this Saturday – but remain mid-table in the NYSD League second division.
Aycliffe second team’s fixture at home to Northallerton was conceded by the visitors after they were unable to raise a team.
The 2nds ended their excellent first season in the NYSD third division with a proud record, having played 24 games, won eight, drawn seven and lost nine, finishing seventh in the table.
Aycliffe’s first team entertain Wolviston’s first XI at Aycliffe Sports Club this Saturday, 1pm.
