Woodham Academy has been working hard to support the science education of primary students within the local area.
Through the formation of the Primary Science Education Cluster, schools work together to develop and improve the provision of science and through lessons and extracurricular experiences.
Mrs Jenkins, Head of the Science Academy at Woodham Academy, leads on the initiative.
She has successfully bid for funding from the Institute of Physics, the money has been used to purchase four resource boxes, containing a range of equipment that will allow the recipients from Woodham Burn, Vane Road and Heighington Primary Schools to practically explore the subject in much greater detail.
Mrs Jenkins is extremely excited about the project, saying: “Ensuring that the primary schools in Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas have access to resources to promote science, and in this particular case Physics, is key to engaging and enthusing students in science.
“We are extremely grateful to the Institute of Physics for their generosity of their schools grant scheme.”
In addition to the three boxes given to schools, a fourth box can be loaned out to other primary schools in the area through Woodham Academy resource box scheme.
Woodham Academy also hosts a range of different science events, including Woodham Sparkies.
