Woodham Academy held its annual Maths Challenge last week.
Ten teams of Year 5 students from Chilton Foliat CE VA Primary, Woodham Burn Community Primary, St. Joseph’s RCVA Primary, Timothy Hackworth Primary School, Stephenson Way Community Primary and Sugar Hill Primary School competed in a series of activities to find the winning team.
The aim of the day was to offer the more able mathematicians in year 5 the opportunity to extend their understanding of mathematics whilst having fun. Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of activities including constructing origami cubes from “limping seagulls”, playing “Round the Clock” and “Pentominoes”, the Woodham Crystal Maze and finally a team maths relay. Teamwork and problem solving were essential. All pupils and Year 9 helpers worked hard showing resilience and resourcefulness and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
In first place were Chilton Team 1, second place went to Woodham Burn and in third place were St. Joseph’s. Well done to all mathematicians!
