A man is due to appear before Magistrates tomorrow in connection with a serious crash near Burtree Caravans, which resulted in two cars bursting into flames.
The incident, which involved a Renault Clio and a Citroen C3, happened shortly before 6pm on Wednesday October 12, near Burtree Caravans on the A68.
The driver of the Clio lost control as he took a left-hand bend and the two vehicles collided head-on.
Both cars then burst into flames and the drivers had to be pulled clear by various members of the public who’d stopped to assist.
The driver of the Citroen, a 60-uear-old man from the Bishop Auckland area, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised for several weeks.
The Clio driver, a 32-year-old man from Shildon, suffered a fracture to the base of his spine. He has been summonsed to appear before Darlington Magistrates tomorrow, charged with careless driving.
