Budding sports writers from Newton Aycliffe visited Durham Cricket Club as part of a school partnership.
Year 10 students from Woodham Academy were able to hone their journalistic skills while covering the Durham Jets T20 game against Leicester Foxes last Friday.
The school enjoys a good working relationship with Durham County Cricket Club, which stems from their involvement with the Woodham Sports Academy, and has evolved to incorporate the Durham CCC initiative, Learning Beyond The Boundary.
Woodham Academy is one of only two schools working in partnership with the LBB team, where students are able to explore the different forms of media that are used to cover the game from their privileged position in the state-of-the-art media centre.
Sharing the stage with professional journalists from The Northern Echo, BBC Radio Newcastle and The Journal, students wrote summaries of the game as well as regularly ‘tweeting’ to give updates as the game developed.
At the game’s conclusion the students prepared questions for Durham star and former England wicketkeeper batsman Phil Mustard and conducted a video interview on the game’s highlights and key moments.
A further visit is scheduled for 25th July where a full stadium tour is planned, which will include the changing rooms and the Sky Television broadcast area.
