Newtonians must make sure their bins are out from 7am on collection days beginning in December.
Durham County Council is asking people in Newton Aycliffe and surrounding areas – as well as other parts of the County – to have bins out by 7am, regardless of whether it is usually collected later in the day.
This is due to the Heighington waste transfer station partially closing next month for renovation work and refuse and recycling crews having longer to travel to get the waste to alternative depots.
Collection days remain the same but to ensure bins are collected they should be placed at the normal collection point by 7am on that day.
Work at the waste station is expected to last until March 2015.
People can find their bin collection day by entering their house number and postcode into the “My Durham” section on Durham County Council’s website: www.durham.gov.uk
Residents are also reminded to “Bin it Right”, the campaign to reduce recycling contamination by putting the right waste items in the right bin.
Further information about bins is available on www.durham.gov.uk/bins or calling 03000 261 000.
