Police are appealing for witnesses after a motoryclist suffered fatal injuries when he came off his machine on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland yesterday afternoon.
The accident happened at 1710hrs on Thursday, 19 April as the victim, a man in his forties was riding his green Kawasaki Z1000SX bike on the A68 from West Auckland towards High Etherly.
As he neared a point on the road approximately 100m from the junction with Ullswater Avenue, the rider attempted to overtake two other vehicles, a blue Vauxhall Zafira and a red Citroen Saxo.
Police believe the bike has then collided with the offside of Zafira which led to the rider losing control of his machine. He then became separated from the bike and suffered fatal injuries as a result. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
The victim, who is from Bishop Auckland, is not being named until police are sure all his immediate family are aware. The driver of the Zafira and the driver and passenger in the Saxo were all unhurt.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who have not already come forward to contact the collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.
