Aycliffe’s latest signing hopes to bring goals to Allan Oliver’s side next season.
Striker Gavin Barton has followed Martin Young and Kris Hughes to Moore Lane Park to round-up an impressive hat-trick of signings in the last week.
The former Spennymoor Town and Consett forward says he hopes to bring goals to the side and help Aycliffe improve on their ninth-placed finish in the Northern League first division.
“Allan (Oliver) told me there was only three sides who conceded fewer goals than us last year, so the backbone is there for a good line of defence, so hopefully I can bring goals at the other end,” Barton told Aycliffe Today.
When asked why Aycliffe, Barton said: “It’s a new challenge… new players, new people, new management and a different direction.
“I enjoyed my time at Consett, Spennymoor, RCA etc, I just see it as the right thing to do at the right time.
“There’s a really good set-up here, I remember playing here last year, the pitch is good, the clubhouse is good.
“I know a few of the lads already – not all of them, but after pre-season I’m sure I’ll get to know everyone pretty quickly – so I’m really looking forward to it.”
