As most of our boys teams having completed their season, the spotlight is veery much on our girls.
After the tournament success last weekend. the u13 Angels started the week, knowing that they had the chance of the league and cup double.
Stockton Town 1 v 2 U13 Angels
On Thursday the girls travelled to Stockton needing a win to secure the league title with 3 games still left of the season and for the 3rd season in a row. With score still level at 0-0 HT
The first goal came from an Evie cross which was clearly handled in the box. The players all stopped and screamed for a penalty. The ref saw an advantage as the ball dropped at Sara’s feet. A second later she realised an advantage was being played and she smashed the ball in the goal. Our second came shortly after. Evie took a corner which we kept alive in the box. Poppy nearly scored but instead created a chance for Faith to finish. At 2-0 we looked in control and likely to get a win. Then Stockton scored and this was followed by the awarding of a penalty, however Layken saved and the girls took the points and the league championship/
Then on to the cup final Saturday
U13 Angels 1 v 1 Boldon (3-2 on penalties)
A very nervy game for both sides. Aycliffe started the game well and created two presentable chances in the first 5-10 minutes, but the Boldon keeper was on top form. Meanwhile Our defence held firm, clearing and blocking everything that came their way, with Layken sweeping up what did get past. HT 0-0. 5 minutes into the second half Aycliffe were behind. With just over 10 minutes to go, we made our final change and went to two up front. Shortly after we won a free kick in a central position about 35 yards out. Evie stepped up. She struck the ball powerfully over the wall, on target with a bit of bend. The shot was too hot for their keeper to handle and we found ourselves with a deserved equaliser. 1-1 FT. then onto penalties, after 5 it was still all square but after Boldon missed Aycliffe scored, cue the celebrations!
U11 Wildcats v Beamish
A tough game for the girls as they struggled with the passing game and didn’t really threaten much. 3-0 down at half time and the game finished 0-5. The effort was there as always from our girls but we work again in training and go next week in our final game of the season at home to Washington.
Pools Youth 1 v 3 U14 Girls
Great result away to a team level on points with us before kick off. A real competitive game of football. Aycliffe made sure they were first to the ball and really played as a unit. The passing and communication on the pitch was second to none. The girls looked like they were enjoying their football and made the most of their chances, limiting the opposition to very few.
South Shields 7 v 3 U14 Girls (Sunday)
A tough match against the league leaders. Down to a squad of 12 for match day due to injuries & illness with many of the 12 also carrying knocks after a hectic schedule. Shields took an early 3-0 lead, but the team responded well with 3 good goals from Eveie, Amy & Bailey. Star players: Evie & Amy
