Goals from former West Auckland players Jordan Laidler (2) and Aaron Brown helped Aycliffe boss Peter Dixon secure a remarkable 3-0 win over the league-leaders on his return to Darlington Road on Tuesday night.
West started the game the brighter, and had three chances to take the lead, with Steve Richardson testing ‘keeper James Winter and Brown clearing off the line from Robert Briggs.
By contrast, Aycliffe’s forays on goal were restricted to tame efforts by Laidler and Richie Archer who both failed to trouble custodian Daniel Lowson.
Ten crazy minutes before the interval turned the game on its head as Aycliffe stunned the league-leaders and marched into a two-goal lead with a quickfire double.
Laidler was on hand to stroke under Lowson on 36 minutes before the former Sunderland man saw his shot saved only for Brown to fire home the loose ball as the interval loomed.
If Dixon’s Blues were expecting a revival from Andy Toman’s side in the second half they certainly didn’t get it, and indeed it was themselves who went on to extend their lead and claim the points.
Lowson cleared a half chance only for the impressive Laidler to execute the perfect volley from 30-yards into the net to seal the points after an hour.
West fashioned a few half chances late on but Aycliffe comfortably saw the game through to give them some much needed confidence ahead of Saturday’s trip to Shildon, as they recorded successive 3-0 victories.
