Newton Aycliffe 0, Marske United 3
By Dave Strickland
Newton Aycliffe were no match for second-placed Marske United as they were well beaten at Moore Lane Park on Tuesday night.
They got off to the worst possible start when ex-player Earl scored in the first minute. A long ball over the top caught the defence napping and Earl chipped the ball over home keeper Jack McLaren.
Things got worse ten minutes later when a free-kick ended up in the back of the net via a deflection.
Marske dominated the first half, with Aycliffe struggling to match their energy and running off the ball.
Aycliffe came out for the second half with better energy, and were the better side for long periods as Marske were happy to hold onto their lead and break out of defence quickly.
Aycliffe worked a good move early in the second half when Marc Costello got around the back and pulled a cross back for Matty Pennal, but he miss-controlled the ball in front of goal.
Marske broke away on 71 minutes and Gott hit a string shot into the top corner for 0-3. Aycliffe kept trying but couldn’t find a way through.
Aycliffe, now 16th in the Northern League first division, entertain fifth-placed Dunston at Moore Lane on Saturday.
