Newtonian Rhys Galloway has taken the web by storm with a wonder goal scored for Aycliffe Juniors Under 8’s in a TJFA league game for the club.
Rhys, who regularly turns out for Aycliffe Juniors Under 8’s, lined up for his Sunday morning game alongside team mates facing Darlington All Stars.
He went on to score a hat-trick which was concluded with a superb curling free-kick which hit the top corner from wide out on the left hand touchline.
This super goal was caught on camera and then uploaded to the club facebook page gaining lots of attention with over 5,700 views.
Rhys’ elder brother Josh then uploaded the video to the ‘Sports Bible’ and the attention rapidly increased. Within a week there were over a million views and Rhys was the centre of this on-line attention with the general public appreciating the quality of his left foot strike.
Rhys attends St Marys RCVA Primary School in Newton Aycliffe and has brothers Jacob and Evan who also represent Aycliffe Juniors in their respective age groups.
Both Abi Steel, manager of the Under 8’s and Jack Slatcher, the teams coach are justifiably proud of Rhys’ performance as well as that of the whole team.
Just to show this free kick was no stroke of luck when this week’s game against Leven was heading for a 2-2 draw. Rhys stepped up again to take a free kick from much the same position and found the top corner again to earn his side a 3-2 win!
