A Newton Aycliffe teenager who celebrated her birthday by stealing a case of lager and a Pot Noodle has been ordered to pay more than £130 in fines and compensation.
Kayleigh Marie Young, from Alston Walk in the town, admitted two counts of shoplifting when she appeared at the town’s magistrates yesterday.
As reported in today’s Northern Echo, the court heard the 19-year-old stole a case of lager worth £9.99 from McColls Store in the town on Tuesday 22nd May, her birthday.
She then went to Woodham Services and stole a Pot Noodle worth £1.09, preosecutor Jacqueline Gibson said.
Ms Gibson said she had previously been barred from shop at the filling station and walked out with the savoury snack after the cashier refused to serve her. The teenager told police she was drunk at the time.
The day after the thefts, Young was given a community order with 12 months supervision at the court for a previous offence which her solicitor Andrew Clinton said she had started well.
The court also heard that Young was in breach of a conditional discharge given to her for being drunk and disorderly.
She was ordered to pay three £35 fines as punishment for the thefts and the breach of the conditional discharge, a £15 victim surcharge and £11.08 in compensation.
