Newton Aycliffe have today swooped for West Auckland’s highly-rated midfielder Martin Young.
The 21-year-old former Hartlepool United professional has become Allan Oliver’s first new signing of the summer, as he looks to add to his squad for the 2012-13 campaign.
“I’m over the moon to be bringing in a player of Martin’s calibre,” said Oliver.
“He ticks all the right boxes for us, he’s young and hungry, loves to play football and he’ll fit perfectly into our team.
“He brings quality to the squad and will also bring a bigger goal threat from an area of the pitch we struggled with last season, so overall it’s a tremendous signing.”
Oliver added: “Gary Farley and I are both working extremely hard behind the scenes to bring in a handful of quality players that we’re confident will excite our supporters, and we hope to announce news of these very soon.”
Young, an attacking midfielder, played 36 games for league runners-up West last season, scoring seven goals, and was a second-half substitute at Wembley in their FA Vase Final defeat against Dunston.
He’s played a total of 99 games in the last three years, scoring 11 goals, after joining them from Hartlepool United, where he’d spent two years as a professional.
