The Aycliffe Sub Aqua Club have scooped a national award for the second successive year.
The 30-year-old group was again selected by a panel of Sub Aqua Association judges as the country’s stand-out organisation, awarding Aycliffe the Golden Club for Outstanding Achievement.
It comes after another year of hard work by the volunteers who run the club, as they were recognised for their dedication to training divers as well as raising the profile of the sport.
“We’re over the moon to have won it for a second year,” chairman Martin Green told Aycliffe Today.

“We’ve spent a lot of time and money over the last two years investing in trying to develop divers to varying degrees and standards set by the Sub Aqua Association.
“A lot of hard work goes in, we’re not-for-profit and everyone we do is done purely on a voluntary basis and there’s an awful lot of private time goes into making it work.
“We’re always looking for new members and anyone can come and try it out – it’s an exciting sport, we provide all the necessary training and it can be a lot of fun. We also organise a lot of social events, too.”
Aycliffe Sub Aqua Club meets every Thursday night at Aycliffe Leisure Centre, from 8pm.
