Woodham Academy students are raising funds for a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to dance at Disneyland.
Georgia Thelwell and Sydney Etherington together with former student Lisa Robinson have been chosen to perform live on the main stage at Disneyland Paris in August.
The trio are organising a variety of events, including selling cakes, and packing bags, to help cover the costs of travel and accommodation. They are also seeking sponsors to take part in the Colour Run Marathon in June.
Georgia and Sydney, who’ve each been dancing for 11 years, and are members of Woodham Dance Academy, described the Paris trip as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.
Teacher Hannah Kent, who runs Woodham Dance Academy, said: “Lisa, Georgia and Sydney are all very talented, hardworking dancers. They are passionate about their dancing and wish to pursue it as a career.
“Performing at Disneyland will be a magical experience and an opportunity for them to showcase their talents, which could lead to even greater things. We hope local businesses will help them take this step to realising their dreams.”
The trio, who recently performed at Woodham Academy’s sell-out Dance Showcase, also train with Clare Walton in Newton Aycliffe, Centre for Advanced Training in Newcastle, and Senior Ballet Associates for Ballet Theatre UK in Leicester.
If they make it to Disneyland, they’ll be dancing with Wharmby Dance Company from Liverpool.
The company is led entirely by accomplished professionals who have appeared on shows including The XFactor and The Brit Awards.
Focussed on commercial dance training, Wharmby provides experiences to young and talented dancers all over the country who wish to aspire to become professionals.
The company identified Lisa, Georgia and Sydney’s talents while the trio took part in a workshop in Liverpool in January, offering them places on their Disney Dance Team for 2018.
