Newton Aycliffe have learned that their debut season in the Northern League’s top tier will stretch to Saturday April 21, after their home game with Shildon was finally rescheduled.
The Newtonians were due to finish their campaign away to Tow Law on April 14, but will now face their local rivals for the fifth time this season in the curtain closing fixture.
The game gives Aycliffe the opportunity to avenge cup defeats to Garry Forrest’s Railwaymen, having been knocked out of both the FA Vase (replay) and the Durham Challenge Cup earlier in the campaign.
In the corresponding league encounter, Allan Oliver’s side demolished Shildon 4-1 at Dean Street, back in October 2011.
The game gives former Shildon striker Warren Byrne the chance to score against his former club, having ironically achieved this feat during both the Vase win and the league game for Forrest’s men, before his November transfer to Moore Lane Park.
