Newtonian Nigel Ould has qualified for the Amateur World Cycling Championships taking place in September.
Nigel qualified after taking part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo, a 128km road race, where he finished 15th in his age group (55-59 year olds).
Nigel, a member of the Great Aycliffe & Middridge Partnership (GAMP) Forum, was in the Royal Artillery for nine years and had a distinguished career, seeing action in the Falklands War.
He has been a keen amateur cyclist for a number of years and is a member of the Aycliffe Velo Cycling Club.
GAMP boss Brian Riley said: “On behalf of the local area I would like to wish Nigel the very best of luck at the World Championships, I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job flying the flag for Newton Aycliffe!”.
Nigel will take part in the Amateur World Cycling Championships in Aalborg, Denmark, on 6th September, over the lengthy distance of a 164km course.
