Newton Aycliffe face possibly the most important week in their history with three away games left this season.
The Newtonians need just four points to clinch the Ebac Northern League Division One title.
Brian Atkinson’s side didn’t play over Easter with both Bishop Auckland and Ashington picking up wins.
But Aycliffe still have the advantage. The second & third placed clubs must play each other on the final day of the season.
Aycliffe’s final home game of the season saw them take a 4-0 win over West Allotment Celtic.
A hat-trick for Eddie Thomas and Liam Jarvie’s 70th goal for the club secured the points at the SecuriCorp Stadium.
The squad now hit the road with three away trips, starting with Carlisle City on Saturday (April 15), when the title could be won if Aycliffe win and Ashington fail to win at home to Thornaby.
Aycliffe then travel to Northallerton Town next Wednesday (April 19) followed by Penrith on the final day of the season, April 22.
A historic league title would also see Aycliffe climb up to Step 4 of the National League System for the first time ever.
