Newton Aycliffe first team’s disappointing second half of the season continued with a 41-run home defeat to Redcar’s second XI.
Fast bowler Matty Atkinson (pictured) picked up yet another man-of-the-match award after taking five wickets for 46 from 13 overs before top scoring with 19.
But it wasn’t enough for the home side, as Aycliffe couldn’t reach Redcar’s 145 all out.
Colin Myers also took three for 18, while Chris Palmer scored 18 with the bat and Michael Howe 14.
Aycliffe crawled past the respectable 300-points barrier, but remain firmly entrenched in mid table in the NYSD League second division with two games to play.
Aycliffe’s first team go to Thornaby this Saturday (13th September, 1pm) to take on their second XI, while our second team are at home to Northallerton’s second XI at Aycliffe Sports Club (1pm).
