A Newton Aycliffe man has been convicted of a racial offence.
As reported on Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team’s Facebook page, Kane Sams, 22, from the Ashfield area of the town, appeared in court in relation to an incident on May 6.
It was alleged Sams used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.
The offence was therefore racially aggravated within the terms of section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, while Sams also resisted police arrest.
He was fined £110, and issued with a restraining order not to contact the victim and not to enter Silverdale Place.
