Newton Aycliffe 0, Guisborough Town 2
By Dave Strickland
Newton Aycliffe suffered an early exit from the FA Cup in their replay on Tuesday night.
They had several good chances to win the first game last Saturday, but conceded a late equaliser in injury-time to finish 3-3.
In the replay, they never hit form; Guisborough dominated the game, particularly the second half, and went through 2-0 with more late goals.
The first half was a dull affair, peppered with fouls. Each side had one good chance; Thibault Charmey put a header wide on 26 minutes for Aycliffe, and Guisborough’s Steven Roberts shot straight at James Winter, when in a good position.
Aycliffe man-of-the-match James Winter made a good save eight minutes into the second half, and was commanding in the penalty box throughout.
Aycliffe centre forward Ian Ward got a header away on the hour, but it went straight through to Nixon in the Guisborough goal.
Roberts was the stand-out player in the second half, and after a couple of good runs that ended in wayward shots, he broke the deadlock with three minutes to go.
Aycliffe conceded a free-kick in a central position and Roberts curled it over the wall into the top corner.
Aycliffe pressed for an equaliser, and were caught out when Steel got on the end of a long ball and beat Winter.
Matty Pennal was sent off for Aycliffe in injury time, as Guisborough saw out the game.
The next game is at home to Seaham Red Star on Saturday (August 18) at 3pm.
