Newton Aycliffe 0, Stockton Town 1
By Dave Strickland
Newton Aycliffe narrowly lost at home to Stockton Town at Moore Lane Park on Tuesday night.
Ex-players often score against their old clubs – and on this occasion, last season’s captain Jamie Owens scored the only goal to give 15th-placed Stockton the three points.
The play went end-to-end for the whole 90 minutes with Stockton having the better chances.
Local lad Jack McLaren had to be at his best in the home goal, and Kurt Matthews (filling in at left back) had a good game.
Ben Trotter hit the post for Aycliffe on the hour, but it was Owens who clinched the game with a fine curler past McLaren into the bottom corner on 72 minutes.
Aycliffe’s next game is at home to local rivals Bishop Auckland on Saturday (November 11).
