Newton Aycliffe 1, Consett 4
By Ryan Livingston
Consett were the decisive victors in this County Durham encounter on Saturday.
The first half was an even contest. Liam Adamson’s deflected shot allowed Cole Kiernan to fire the hosts ahead from close range in the 13th minute.
Yet Consett swiftly retaliated via a Scott Fenwick header from a corner three minutes later.
And in the 41st minute Jake Orrell made it 2-1 to the visitors.
The second half saw Consett gain a stronger foothold in the game, with Ben Ramsey finding Wil Shaw who slotted home on the hour mark.
Shortly after Aycliffe were given the opportunity to pull one back through a penalty, but a fantastic James Anderson double save denied the home side.
The fourth goal came from a corner with Aycliffe keeper Dan Cameron’s punch finding his own net.
Aycliffe make the long trip to Carton Town this Saturday, returning to the SecuriCorp Stadium to face Bridlington Town on November 11.
That game will be followed by the Durham Challenge Cup tie on Tuesday, November 14, when Aycliffe will host Bishop Auckland.
