Newton Aycliffe are gearing up for what is hoped will be a record-breaking pre-season friendly next week.
The Newtonians welcome a Sunderland XI to the town next Friday (20th July) when Black Cats coach Kevin Ball will bring a side to Moore Lane Park.
Aycliffe are hoping another record gate will turn out for the game, to eclipse their previous best attendance of 1,307 when Darlington visited two years ago.
Chairman Gary Farley said: “It promises to be a mouthwatering occasion, and we’re all looking forward to it very much.
“A lot of hard work went on to secure the game and there’s been a lot of work going on behind the scenes in preparation for the match, such as extra parking provisions with the council and policing with our local neighbourhood policing team.
“Now we’re just hoping to get some decent weather on the night!”
Aycliffe will play a training game against their Under-18s side this Saturday, on a 3G playing surface at Longfield Academy in Darlington.
Next Friday’s game kicks off at 7.30pm, with admission £5 adults and £3 concessions (Over-65s & Under-16s).
