A Facebook page encouraging Newtonians to share photos and memories has already topped 1,000 fans.
‘Whats so good about Newton Aycliffe?’, set up by proud Newtonian Phil Bosten, already has nearly 1,100 likes.
The page gives Facebookers a chance to post pictures of the town and people and recollect their days of living in the town – including this picture of a 1970-71 Stephenson Way School football team.
“I didn’t expect the page to attract so much interest so I am delighted,” said Phil.
“A lot of people who have posted on the page now live away from the town and have contacted me to tell me how much they miss it.
“It is a beautiful, healthy and safe place to live.”
As well as a large number of photos, dating from the 1950s to the present day, the page is full of comments from people, keen to share the things they love most about Newton Aycliffe.
From summer play schemes at Moore Lane Park; to Betty’s Chip Shop, Jaques, Dancing School, dog walking trails, the boating lake and the town carnival – the list is long.
