Aycliffe Fabrications starred at an event to showcase the best of ‘Made in Durham’ recently.
More than 30 exhibitors celebrated some of the best manufacturing businesses Durham has to offer at Durham County Hall.
One of the exhibitors was John Spensley of Aycliffe Fabrications (pictured).
“A lot of people have been excited about this event,” said John.
“We’ve been waiting for something like this to come along and showcase what is excellent about what we make in County Durham.”
The Made in Durham event was the brainchild of Cllr Dennis Morgan, Chairman of Durham County Council, was delighted by the response of businesses that took part.
“County Durham has a number of companies from micro businesses to world-class manufacturers who have made the county their home and who continue to produce their products here,” said Cllr Morgan.
To recognise their contribution to our local economy, Cllr Morgan invited businesses to showcase their products, ranging from engineering companies to wedding stationery designers, to hand-crafted wooden toys and food manufacturers.
Cllr Morgan added: “I received favourable comments from every stand I visited.
“I’m now looking into making this an annual event as promoting County Durham and the high quality products we make here is something I am very passionate about.
“For example, how many people know that the roof of King’s Cross Station and the visitor centre at the Olympic Park in London were both made by County Durham companies?
“But we’ve got to get out there and blow our own trumpets and let people know that this is what we do in County Durham do, and that we do it very well.
“Awareness and communication is fundamental and anything we can do by highlighting them at events such as this to help raise the profile of what we do well, is all the better.”
